About Malta

Malta situated in the middle of the Mediterranean, it consists of an archipelago, the main island of Malta, the sister island of Gozo, a smaller island named Comino and two other very small uninhabited islands. Malta is about 100km from Sicily and 220km from North Africa. The Islands have a population of 400,000, living on an area of 316 sq.km. Blessed by a temperate climate, crystal-clear seas and a time-honoured sense of hospitality, Malta is highly sought by tourists from all over the world, all year round. History in Malta dates back 6000 years, with impressive megalithic temples (the oldest stone buildings in the world) that stand shoulder to shoulder with magnificent Renaissance fortifications built by the Knights of St John.

Down through the centuries, Malta's strategic natural harbours attracted a series of successive trading and maritime civilisations, from the Phoenicians down to the British, leaving an indelible mark on the island's cultual, historical and linguistic heritage.
As a result, most Maltese citizens are bilingual and multicultural,

and are proud of their warm Mediterranean hospitality, which blends harmonously with Anglo-Saxon traditions and European charm. More detailed and up-to-date information about Malta can be found on the Malta Tourism Authority (MTA) Web Site.
